Good advice-if folks MUST use powerpoint. Every time I either a.) use powerpoint to make a presentation or b.) sit through a powerpoint presentation, a small part of my soul dies!

I think we have become so powerpointized that we have even begun to think in bullet points. Never mind the pure insanity of spending hours building slides, graphics, little gimmicks etc.all of which move the presenter and the consumer further and further from actually communication, learning and interacting.

I far prefer a good ole' fashioned conversation, free form discussion, questions and answer session, even handouts!

Just save me from that dim the lights, click thru my slides madness that has gripped us ever since Harvard Graphics filled our disk drives in the mid 90's

Good blog as always Mark

Great suggestions about powerpoint, Marc. Another source for the cheapskates among us who don't want to pay for copyrighted photos: Google images. I have been able to find pictures there to illustrate just about every point I wanted to make in a presentation.

Two of the best presentation resources I've come across are Nancy Duarte's "Slide:ology" and Garr Reynolds' "Presentation Zen".

Nancy and her firm, Duarte Design, are the best of the best when it comes to business presentations. Their client list reads like a "who's who" for the Silicon Valley and it was their handiwork behind Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth presentation. The book is very, very excellent.
