A Google Chat thank you for a donation?

Have you ever been thanked for a nonprofit donation over Google Chat?

I just was. And it was so cool!

I just made a donation to an amazing nonprofit, Amirah. [Full disclosure: I am on their board.]

A couple minutes later, Google Chat popped up with the message:

You just donated to a great cause! Thank you… :)

Cool Google Chat thank you for a donation

Cool. Simple. Real time.

Remarkable, really.

Don’t Blow this Off

Some of you will be tempted to dismiss this with a comment like, “Yeah. But you’re on their board.”

So what?

When was the last time you made a personal thank you to a board member in a way he would love?

Why not do it today?

  1. Thanks for this, Mark. I often send e-mail or chat thank you’s to people I know well to thank them for a donation to an organization I’m working with because it’s fast, easy and personal but it never occurred to me that a donor might prefer that sort of thank you to a formal letter in the mail. Must be all of that childhood training that says if it’s not time consuming and difficult to send a thank you note, it doesn’t count.

  2. That personal connection is so important and it must have been so nice to receive that!

In this ever-tightening economic environment, fundraisers need to go the extra mile
