Ask Without Fear!® AI Fundraising Kit

Use AI to raise money — without sounding pushy, manipulative, or generic.

Most AI fundraising advice is bad. It treats donors like targets and asking like a sales funnel. This free kit is different.

Every prompt here is grounded in the Ask Without Fear® framework: ethical, relational fundraising built on trust, clarity, and genuine connection. Use these prompts with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or whatever AI tool you prefer.

Why this fundraising AI toolkit exists

Let’s be real

I’ve been fundraising and coaching nonprofit leaders in fundraising since 1997. And I kept seeing the same problem: too many people were scared to ask or are so unclear about what they were asking for so they harmed donors with awful asks. Now that AI tools are widely available, well meaning people are getting even more awful advice.

There’s a lot of AI fundraising advice that will help you pressure donors, talk endlessly about your nonprofit, and sound like every other nonprofit in your donor’s inbox.

That’s not what good fundraising is.

This kit teaches AI to think about fundraising the way I do: that donors are partners, not ATMs. That an ask without a dollar amount is not an ask. That the thank you is where most nonprofits quietly lose donors they worked hard to find.

Paste these prompts into any AI chat. Let them coach you from inside a framework you can trust.

Walk me through the whole process

Best if: You want AI to guide you through a complete fundraising effort — from getting clear on what you’re raising for, all the way through to stewarding the relationship after the gift.

The workflow follows the R.E.A.L. framework from Ask Without Fear!®:

  • Research — Know what you’re asking for and who you’re asking
  • Engage — Build real relationships before you ask
  • Ask — Make a clear, specific, confident ask
  • Love — Steward donors well after every gift

Each step includes a short explanation and a copy-and-paste prompt. Work through them in order, or start where you are.

Step 1: Research the Opportunity

Get clear on what you’re raising for — programs, impact, costs, and goal — before you approach a single donor.

Step 2: Research the Donor

Evaluate your prospects on capacity, giving history, and interest — and match them to the right gift level.

Step 3: Plan the Engagement

Build a month-by-month engagement plan for each prospect, working backwards from your target ask date.

Step 4: Prepare the Ask

Get the exact words, the right dollar amount, and a plan for the moment — including what to do right after you ask.

Step 5: Handle Objections

Prepare for the three most common reasons a donor hesitates — and learn how to respond well without pressure.

Step 6: Steward the Relationship

Show donors their gift mattered. This is where most nonprofits lose donors — and where you can set yourself apart.

Step 7: Debrief and Plan Next Steps

Capture what you learned, update the record, and set up the next cycle — before the details fade.

Help me with one thing right now

Best if: You know what you need and you want to jump straight to it. These are standalone prompts — no workflow required.

Clarify what you’re raising for

Can’t clearly answer “so what are you raising money for?” Start here.

Prepare for a donor meeting

Walk into any donor conversation with the right questions, the right mindset, and a simple meeting plan.

Write a clear ask

Draft a fundraising letter, email, or appeal that leads with donor impact — not organizational need.

Respond to a donor objection

A donor pushed back or said no. Think through how to respond well without pressure.

Thank a donor well

Write a personal, specific thank you that shows the donor what they made possible.

Equip your board for fundraising

Help your board find their role in fundraising — starting with the activity most likely to build their confidence.

Ground my whole AI chat

Best if: You want an entire conversation with AI to stay anchored in the Ask Without Fear® philosophy. Paste this once at the start of a new chat — then ask whatever you need.

This is the advanced option. Once you paste it, the AI will coach you from inside the framework for the rest of the conversation. No need to re-explain your approach every time.

Want everything in one file?

Want more than prompts?

These prompts will help you think more clearly and act more confidently. But prompts aren’t coaching, and reading isn’t practice.
