2009 looks like it will be a challenging year for fundraising. But people are going to give. It’s just a matter if they’re going to give to your organization.
So one of your goals this year should be to make your nonprofit easy to find. Since more and more people are using the internet to research your group, let’s start there.
Whether you have a website or not, did you know that you and your organization have a Google profile?
And did you know that anyone can add a review? It’s probably a good idea to check in every once and a while to see what people are saying!
The good news is that you can edit your profiles.
To edit your nonprofit’s profile:
- Search for your organization on Google Maps. I’ve found using a street address helps.
- Then click on the orange dot that’s yours.
- Next, after the balloon with the summary pops up, click on “edit.”
- And finally click on “Claim your business.”
There you can list your address, website, hours of operation. You can even upload photos to add flair to your profile!

Marc – great advice. There are so many things that foundations can do this year that are essentially free (a few minutes of time). The foundations that search out these things and do them will be in a much better position to raise money both now and when things turn around.
